After School Activities

At Eden Primary School, we have a very enthusiastic staff who encourage the children in the P4-P7 classes to participate in many different extra-curricular activities. These activities take place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, as well as at lunch time each Wednesday. The wide variety of activities ensures that there is something to cater for the interest of each child.

Hockey

Hockey is part of our range of after school activities that are there to suit every child! Hockey is a very popular sport within our community and there is an opportunity to learn and develop new skills and build on your fitness during after school hockey on Thursday.

Miss Reynolds takes Primary 4-7 and she also co-ordinates a monthly tournament held at the Amphitheatre in Carrick for schools across the local area.  Eden also participate in the Ulster Schools’ tournaments and we have enjoyed success at many different levels. Being active and part of a team sport is such a rewarding opportunity and hockey continues to be a very popular afterschool club!

Tennis

In the summer term, part of our afterschool activities includes our tennis club. Miss Reynolds enjoys taking P4-7 outside where they develop new skills as well as building on existing ones! We have tennis nets and a supply of racquets and balls … having fun with ‘quick feet’, developing ‘hand-eye’ co-ordination is all part of improving our fitness through fun and sport!

Afterschool Clubs for P1-3

Monkeynastix and Irish Dancing

Monkeynastix provides the children with a fun way to explore and discover the world through their senses and bodies using an exciting movement education programme.  This club is on 10 weekly block and Sara comes every Monday from 2-3pm.

Irish Dancing is a dance club for all children.  Jacquie Haggan, who runs her very own Irish Dancing School, comes into Eden on a Friday afternoon.  P1-3 are welcomed in the hall from 2-3pm and then P4-7 are welcomed from 3-4pm.  Each session is £3 and Jacquie is always so very keen to welcome every child who wishes to learn this very unique style of dancing!

Board Games

All children in P5-7 are welcome to attend Board Games every Thursday afternoon in terms 1 & 2.  We have lots of fun, learn new skills and can challenge each other during a variety of games. We also enjoy developing our ICT skills in a fun environment. It is a great way for the children to develop Numeracy and Literacy skills, while having fun. Come along and give it a try!

School Choir

Our School Choir is for pupils in P4 to P7 and we practise every Tuesday from 3.00pm-4.00pm.  Our School Choir regularly sings at school events and special occasions in the community.  Over the years we have had great success in local Musical Festivals.  Eden Primary School has a rich history in the Arts and strives to encourage children's musical development both in class music lessons and through choral singing and instrument tuition.  We currently have support from the Ulster Scots’ Society giving the children exposure to a wide variety of musical instruments and singing styles.  Click on the pictures below to watch the choir or click one of the icons below to listen to some recent choir performances.

Football

Football coaching is available to children from Primary 2 to Primary 7. We are fortunate to have an IFA coach, who works with the children in P2 and P3, to develop skills in a fun environment. Primary 4 to 7 boys have a football club after school on a Tuesday, and they participate in a 7-a-side league with ten other schools in the area. They play a match each week in the Autumn term on the 3G pitches at the local leisure centre. We have had some good success over the years. We also enter various other tournaments and play some friendly matches throughout the year.

French

Tuesday 3.00-4.00pm (Terms 2 and 3) for P5-7

Bonjour!  At Eden Primary school we run a French club for P5-7 pupils in terms 2 and 3.  The club is a fun and interactive club which introduces the children to the oral and written language of French.  The children are able to play active games to learn their numbers and colours.  We also have an interactive CD-rom which allows the children to watch french cartoons, watch video clips from native French speakers, as well as using video to learn about the country of France.  Singing is also part of our fun, as we learn new vocabulary.  The children have ownership of the club and we aim to help the children learn what they would like to.  There is also a chance to taste French food, however the Camembert cheese appears more of a challenge to eat than a delight for the children.   All pupils are welcome from P5-7 and do not need any previous experience of learning French.

Netball

All girls in P5-7 are welcome to attend our Netball practice every Thursday afternoon in term three.  We have lots of fun, learn new skills and compete with one another in short seven-a-side games.  It’s a great way to finish off the school day in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.  The added bonus is that it also helps us to keep fit! Come along and give it a try!

Scripture Union

Scripture Union is open to all P4 - P7 children.  We meet on a Wednesday at lunch time.  Quizzes, singing, memory verses and stories all contribute to an enjoyable atmosphere of learning.  We have various guests along throughout the year and there are also often Christmas and Easter parties!

Cricket

In the summer term, children in P5 - P7 are able to attend after-school coaching. The Primary 7 class also gets weekly cricket coaching from Carrickfergus Cricket Club's overseas player. They are then invited to a tournament in June.
