Hedge planting
We have been successful in our application for a 'Live Here Love Here, Small Grant'. With our grant we have been able to purchase 20m of Photinia Red Robin hedging, liner, compost, bonemeal and landscape bark. We would like to thank three gentlemen from our school community, Mr Campbell, Mr Green and Mr Crooks for preparing the ground for our planting. Today we were able to plant our bare root hedge, working in groups in our classes. We were able to complete our project under the guidance and supervision of one of our 'green-fingered' teaching assistants, Mrs Heggarty. P2-7 worked in groups to plant each of the saplings today and P1 came to check on our progress and make sure we were doing a good job. We watered the plants and added extra compost where needed. We then made sure that the liner 'tucked the plants into bed'. P6 finished off the day checking that the hedge plants were well planted and secure before they worked as a class to add the bark on top.
We still have four pollinator trees to plant and Mr Green and Mr Campbell will be back to help us with that. Keep a check on the website for the next update, and see what P1 will be involved in. Thanks for reading and enjoy looking at some of the photos from today. Some children enjoyed getting their hands dirty more than others, but we are all so happy to be involved in outdoor learning, as well as planting a new habitat for the birds and insects. Now to watch it grow!
