Children's Mental Health Week - Take 5
8th Feb 2024
This Children's Mental Health Week we have been focusing on well-being. As part of our Eco-schools action plan and in partnership with Sustrans, we had the pleasure of welcoming Beverley Gaston in to work with all classes. The focus of the lessons this week was 'Take 5'. The children were able to 'Be active' playing games such as 'Poison Tag'. They were able to 'Take Notice' by being silent statues in the playground. Some children chose to stand and others to sit down as they listened out for the sounds of nature. The children enjoyed 'Keep Learning' as they were able to decide if statements were true or false. Groups of children, across the classes, were able to 'Connect' with each other, as they sorted themselves into alphabetical order, or birth month. Have a look at some of the photos from our sessions, it was definitely a great way to focus on our mental health and enjoy being active outdoors. In addition to this we have also promoted walking to school this week. P5 have completed a drama lesson focusing on well-being and in addition P6 were able to take part in a 'Take 5 Sensory Discovery' where they noted 5 things they could see, 4 things they could hear, 3 things they could feel, 2 things they could smell and 1 thing they could taste. When worries and anxieties overwhelm us it is good to refocus with this activity.
